Robert Holmes III serves as President of Seneca Past & Present and was recently elected Vice President of CGAKY — the Charitable Gaming Alliance of Kentucky, a statewide nonprofit coalition uniting charitable organizations to share impact data, strengthen advocacy, and elevate the collective voices of communities directly supported by charitable fundraising. Through this alliance, Kentucky charities now have a unified platform to demonstrate the millions of dollars reinvested annually into education, community support systems, and essential human services across the Commonwealth.
Robert’s leadership is deeply rooted in lived experience and a lifelong commitment to Seneca High School, where he graduated and later returned in 2015 as School Community Liaison and Assistant Athletic Director. There, he became known not only for encouraging academic and athletic success, but also for recognizing an often hidden but life-defining reality among students: hunger.
What began as offering snacks — “chips, peanuts, Little Debbies, the usual comfort foods,” as he recalls — quickly revealed something larger. Students weren’t just stopping by to socialize; they were coming because they were truly hungry. That realization shifted his purpose. Robert began stocking healthier food options, but more importantly, he began asking deeper questions about food insecurity and the conditions students were navigating long before they ever reached a classroom.
“Imagine going to bed hungry, waking up hungry, coming to school hungry, and someone expects you to learn geometry and history,” Robert explains. “You’re being asked to perform in an environment that assumes your basic needs are met when they’re not. It sets a person up for failure before they even begin.”
That moment marked the beginning of his mission-driven work: fighting hunger, championing dignity, and building systems of support so students don’t just attend school — they have the foundation to thrive in it.
Today, as President of Seneca Past & Present, Robert continues that calling with focus, determination, and true community devotion. His strategic leadership has expanded charitable funding, strengthened local partnerships with organizations such as Dare to Care and Blessings in a Backpack, and introduced modernized charitable gaming as a sustainable pathway for revenue.
“One of the absolute most loving things you can do for another person is feed them,” Robert says. “Through Seneca Past and Present, I’m proud to say that we’re doing that every day.”
From scholarship development and endowment planning to community investment and statewide advocacy, Robert’s work embodies compassionate leadership in action — honoring the students he once mentored, the community that raised him, and the institution that continues to shape Louisville’s future.
